The Property
Just 3 hours from Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne, Vanuatu is a well kept secret. French English and the many Melanesian languages mix and flow into a relaxed life style in one of the happiest and most beautiful places on the planet.
The Beach House is as far from a large resort as you can get; cooking fresh food on a simple fire, a Paw Paw plucked straight off tree, a glass of wine and friends, 3 and a half gorgeous tropical acres all to yourselves, your own private sandy cove, snorkeling on an untouched coral reef. It’s back to basics, but a little bit rock star.
Twenty minutes from Port Vila’s international airport is the sparkling waters of Tuktuk Bay and The Beach House. With accommodation for 6, The Beach House is a reflection of a time gone by, unpretentious, simple and very charming, with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a simple kitchen. Our House girl is included in the rate, for cleaning and childcare.
A minimum stay of five nights gives you just enough time to fully sink into life at The Beach House. All you need to bring is a load of groceries, a box of cold beer, your flippers and you’re set for a perfect getaway.
The Neighbourhood
The Beach house is set on 3 and a half lush tropical acres in Tuktuk Bay Vanuatu. All of the properties in this area are at least 1.5 acres, and with only farmland and coconut plantations on the opposite side of the road it feels gorgeously secluded. Being half an hours drive from Port Vila on a dusty bumpy road, it’s a well kept secret, the sort of place you want to hunker down and stay for a while, your own private sanctuary. The property is exquisite, with a 90m water frontage, a gorgeous little sandy cove and a boat ramp. The land is flat with many large tropical trees, and plenty of shade. There are copious paw paw trees on the property, as well as other tropical fruit. There is no internet or landline, but there is good cell phone coverage, The facilities are basic but very comfortable...it’s sort of old school Caribbean, thick plaster walls with a Natangara roof.... the beds are comfortable, the sheets are 100% cotton and we supply thick cotton Country Rd beach towels. There are ceiling fans in both bedrooms but no air conditioning. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a King size bed and the other with 2 sets of bunks that can be taken apart and reconfigured any which way that suits. There is a shared bathroom, no bath but little kiddies just use a big tin tub which is loads more fun anyway. There is a small kitchen with a very large fridge/freezer, and a gas hob...but you’ll probably do most of your cooking on the fire down by the Beach Fare... a traditional open air fare with a Natangara thatched roof and a long built in table with bench seats, it’s a great place to use as your dive centre, and for long lazy meals. The Beach House is a great place for families, your kids will LOVE it, they will have amazing adventures here, it is also a great place for adults. It’s probably not the best place for babies under 18 months, as there’s lots of places to fall over and scrape little knees. It’s definitely not 5 star, but that’s what’s SO great about it! (please don’t come complaining if the shower head clogs up with lime and shoots you in the eye....or a crab crawls up your mozzie net...I mean, you have your own private cove, and acres of pristine coral reef to yourselves!! What more could you ask for?
